Miracle On Ice, Newly Discovered Original Live Call
January 192010
Check out this incredible, newly discovered, original play-by-play call of The Miracle On Ice, perhaps the greatest upset in the history of team sports. When the USA shocked Russia, 4-3, at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics, Curt Chaplin was covering the game as a sports reporter for the ABC Radio Network. Standing on a camera platform in the crowd, he did play-by-play of the entire game into his tape recorder, capturing the event on tape forever. Now, after 25 years, these tapes have been rediscovered and matched to the video. The result is a dramatic, stirring and completely original experience for sports fans all over the world. Now you can relive the #1 sports upset of the 20th Century in a whole new way, through new eyes and a new voice. Still as fresh and exciting as the day it happened. Curt’s call has been accepted as an exhibit by the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. If you know any hockey players, fans or anyone who loves sports, send them the link. They should all see it.

@xxlxenaxxx that’s …
@xxlxenaxxx that’s the point of the movie! It encapsulated American national pride, as well as something NO ONE saw coming. David vs. Goliath is what makes the movie so fantastic

30th year …
30th year anniversary… I think the USA are in the same predicament in 2010… watch out for them! I think they will show up and win.

a good game. …
a good game. so congratulations, americans. You finally beat us. and you deserved it too.
January 19th, 2010 at 6:50 am
all right I’m gonna …
all right I’m gonna tell everyone to STFU right now because the arguments are stupid. The U.S. wins their first juniors goldmedal in a while, so let them have it. They won olympic gold in 1980. let em have it. Canada has done way better than that. but the fact is, we were living on borrowed time in the Juniors. We should have lost New Year’s Eve, but we didn’t cause the US blew it. if Allen hadn’t have started in the gold medal game, we would have won for sure, but to the US, it was a good game.

Wrong….USA vs …
Wrong….USA vs SOVIET UNION. Do I have to tell you guys everything?
January 19th, 2010 at 6:50 am
No, not at all. Why …
No, not at all. Why do you say that? Because we stormed back amazingly with 2 goals right near the end of the game to tie it? Do you not think that shows heart?
The miracle on ice was tainted, the best Canadian players weren’t there. The top pros from Canada would have hit the college players from the states and won easily
January 19th, 2010 at 6:50 am
At the end of the …
At the end of the day, the USA is the best country in the world – bar none.
January 19th, 2010 at 6:50 am
Yeah I knew it was …
Yeah I knew it was the 93 Habs. But I’m saying fans cheer for the logo on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back of the jersey. Fans in Canada didn’t root for Anaheim over Ottawa because Anaheim had more Canadians on the team, they rooted for Ottawa because it is a team based in Canada. Anyway, calling the Miracle on Ice a joke is blasphemy; the Summit Series pitted only 2 teams against each other (whoop-dee-doo). Olympics pit every country against each other and US came out on top.
January 19th, 2010 at 6:50 am
its not whether or …
its not whether or not if its a canadian team its the players, if you notice most winning teams are majority canadian players and it was 93 the habs won it
January 19th, 2010 at 6:50 am
By the way…how …
By the way…how long has it been since a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup?
January 19th, 2010 at 6:50 am
Umm…the 72 Summit …
Umm…the 72 Summit Series was NHL Pros vs Russian Pros…the 1980 Olympics pitted college guys who had never played with each other against a team that had been winning since 1964 and have played together for years, who beat the NHL All-Star Team (featuring many CANADIANS) 6-0. Canadians ARE the best hockey players in the world, everybody knows it, no need to rub it in everyone else’s face. Canadians need to quit and moaning all the time every time they lose…that’s what soccer fans do

gives me goose …
gives me goose bumps!
January 19th, 2010 at 6:50 am

January 19th, 2010 at 6:50 am
Congratulations on …
Congratulations on the junior win, well done USA! But the Miracle on Ice is tainted, admit it. But well done USA juniors, you deserved that win. It was the BEST against the BEST.
January 19th, 2010 at 6:50 am
Another cry baby …
Another cry baby Canadians! Sorry you guys lost the juniors! Future bright for American HOCKEY!
January 19th, 2010 at 6:50 am
Canada’s best …
Canada’s best players would have hit these college players and left them confused, unlike the Russians who just let them skate around like it was nobodies business. Yes, sorry to disappoint you all but the miracle on ice is tainted. Best players weren’t there, so this was just nice, but not great. I’m glad USA won though, good job boys

While Al Michaels’ …
While Al Michaels’ call of the game is well-known and has been recreated in the movie “Miracle”, Curt’s call was packed away in his house until 2006 when he decided to put it on CD and then match the call with the video from ABC Sports. What resulted is the 9:54 video that is currently on YouTube and has been seen by almost 150,000 viewers.
January 19th, 2010 at 6:50 am
But before Curt …
But before Curt Chaplin got his role on the popular show, he was a reporter with ABC Radio and was in Lake Placid for the 1980 Winter Olympics. Curt covered the USA-USSR hockey game which became known as the “Miracle on Ice”. He was assigned to the game by ABC Radio to get post-game reaction and when Team USA pulled off the 4-3 upset of the Soviets, Curt was there to talk to the players. However, what wasn’t known was that Curt called the game into his tape recorder.

How can u say that …
How can u say that they “never” would have beaten Canada? You may not be old enough to remember, but the USSR was by far the best team in the world. They beat the NHL All-Stars badly in the 3-game Challenge Cup in ‘79 winning the last game 6-0. In ‘81 they DESTROYED Canada 8-1 in the final of the Canada Cup, and won the World Title 5 of 6 years between ‘78 & ‘83. In both the Challenge Cup and Canada Cup the Canadien roster was a who’s-who of NHL talent. The USA beat the team that destroyed Canad
