This is a …
This is a tournament training video, if you want to do taekwondo competitions then yes you need to practice competition techniques.
Tae kwondo schools dont just teach tournament fighting, there is much more taught than that, just like any other martial art, WHY cant people understand that??
Of course in a real situation your not going to use fancy kicks derrr.

the ability to kick …
the ability to kick high just extends ones bounds, most who can kick high with good execution have fabulous mid level kicks

Your right on that. …
Your right on that…I’m just saying that because a school makes profit doesn’t mean it’s not a great school…I’d love to do that.

Most judo schools …
Most judo schools in the U.S are non-profit. Well maybe not most, but a significant portion of them.
Students (myself included) pay a small fee ranging between 20-50 dollars per month. The money goes towards expenses like electricity, heating, rent, etc and the instructors don’t make money doing it, they do it because they WANT to do it.

Idk its just …
Idk its just something I’ve noticed. People trying to go faster but messing up their stances. My Korean Grandmaster told me that if you can’t do a graceful side kick then why should you get a blackbelt. And get I see a multitude of people who think their hot stuff with black belts when their kicks have horrible form.

That’s hilarious… …
That’s hilarious…. why would you want to hold a sidekick for longer than it takes to hit someone with anyways? Flexability is great, but you need to have explosive flexability, which means you can kick high, but your muscles are not loose and weak, they’re quick and powerful. Holding kicks high for a long time looks nice in “american style” martial arts, but is a useless skill. I do agree though, that too many people are “giving away” belts.
May 17th, 2010 at 5:36 am
lol but that isnt …
lol but that isnt the only point. its about teaching properly. I see so many “taekwondo masters” who probably cant hold a high side kick for over 30 secounds. Which is pitiful. shouldn’t you learn the martial art and not just get a belt and think your belt color means your all that when you havent learned much.

Are there any …
Are there any Martial Arts schools that don’t want to make money?Would you run a school for free?Would you pay for belts and give them away?

Power=(1/2)x(mass)x …
Power=(1/2)x(mass)x(velocity)x(velocity) so yeah speed is power. With that equation you can see that losing speed in profit of build up will dramatically decrease power.

speed is power. But …
speed is power. But momentum brings more weight behind it. Imagine a round house that swings from 6 inches to target. compared to a 3 foot swing to the target. 3 feet will give it alot more power, but it will be slower becasue even though its fast, it will need time to travel the distance. So speed DOES=power but theres also build up involved and more build up = lots more power but reduction of speed. See what im saying? Im training WTF TKD aswell but i just thought ide point that bit out
May 17th, 2010 at 5:36 am
lol if they sped up …
lol if they sped up they still slow compared to others =p
