What does it mean when a team is +20 or -20 on a spread for sports betting? I want to bet on this game but don’t fully understand it. Does the +20 team have to win by 20 or more points for me to win if I choose them? If I choose the -20 team does that mean if the team loses by less then 20 I win? What does it all mean?
-20 is the favorite. They have to win by 21 to win the bet. (If they win by 20 its a push)
+20 is the underdog. They can lose by 19, and you still win the bet.

Brandon,
You are on the right track but you have your lines crossed. The -20 indicates the favorite who would have to win by 21 points to win the bet. Think of the minus symbol as the favorite "giving" points, and the underdog as "taking" points. The underdog can lose by up to 19 points and still win the bet.
Whenever you see half numbers with spreads and over/unders, it eliminates the possibility of a tie aka "push." When a push happens, there is no action and you are returned your wager amount.

The (+) indicates that the team is an underdog by that amount of points.
The (-) indictes that the team is favored to win by that many points.
If you take a team -20 then they must win by 21 or more for you to win.
If you take a team +20, then they must lose by 19 or less or win for you to win the wager.
If the favored team wins by exactly 20 points, then the wagers are all deemed to be ‘no action’ and you will receive a refund of your wager amount.
